Otherwise, if you prefer just regular conquest and a large map, ME is your best option, the map is much larger than the vortex map and the only goal is conquest. High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, and Skaven follow a Vortex campaign that tends to throw large waves of enemies at you, the other factions have their own goals. Do you like having a basic campaign and a sense of direction to help you figure out what to do next? Vortex is probably the best choice, every faction has a sort of mini-campaign that, while not in-depth, could provide goals for you to pursue. Probably Settra, he is supposed to have the easiest start and can get pretty powerful later on.Īs for whether to play Vortex or ME, that is mostly a matter of personal taste. If you go high elves, I would recommend Tyrion, if managing maintenance and trying to figure out when to upgrade to better units ends up being difficult, then the tomb kings would be a good alternative. Your best bet is still the high elves though, the Tomb Kings tend to have harder starts since you can only have one army until turn 20 or so. The reason I think they can sometimes be easier for a new player is because it is impossible to overexpand your armies and end up paying far more than you can afford in maintenance. The main difference with the Tomb Kings are that all their units are free to recruit and cost no maintenance, instead you have a cap amount of each unit type, increased with techs, heroes, or by building more military buildings. If you have the DLC, personally I think the Tomb Kings race could also be a good race for new players, since in some ways the game is simplified to an extent. High Elves are generally considered a good race for a new player, especially playing as Tyrion.
